Alex was a man with a wonderful
presence, a showman. He performed piano recitals in the Whitehouse at the
request of four presidents, and when he played for us, as he often did,
we felt as if we were priviledged royalty. In the pictures above he was
87 and ready for a long treck in the frozen woods.
He was my friend for almost 20 years.
His music, his smile, his courage, his warmth and generosity, and his clear
thinking will be missed by all of us.
